Born in Geneva, Switzerland, Emilie Brzezinski immigrated to the United States and grew up in California. She graduated from Wellesley College in Massachusetts with a degree in the history of art. She began a serious art career in the 1970s working in a variety of media, including plastics, latex, and wood fiber. Her expressive themes always related to nature. Eventually, she focused entirely on monumental wood sculpture, using a chain saw and an axe to carve forms that breathed new life into found wood. During the last two decades, she has had several gallery and museum installations in the United States and overseas. She continues her work with monumental wood sculpture today.
